Dean Close Summer — specialist facilities

Dean Close School is a co-educational Boarding and Day School which provides continuity of education from age 2 to 18. The School was established in 1886, and is set in 50 acres of parkland in the centre of Cheltenham. Small classes, excellent learning facilities plus a 550-seater professional theatre, amphitheatre, 2 floodlit astroturfs, 25m indoor pool, climbing wall, indoor rifle range, dance studio and fully equipped gymnasium all help to nurture each child's curiosities.

With around 150 pupils in the Pre-Prep (ages 2-7), 300 pupils in the Prep (ages 7-13) and 500 in Dean Close School (ages 13-18), our size allows everyone to know one another and each child to feel valued and to get fully involved in the life of their School, whilst also being big enough to have a strong Boarding community (from Year 3), vibrant and exciting creative arts, impressive academic results and great sports achievements across all ages.

Visitors to Dean Close comment on our warm and friendly atmosphere; we believe that this positive environment is attributed directly to the values and ethos of the School.
Dean Close Summer — school facilities

School history The school, originally called "Dean Close Memorial School", was founded in 1886, the 79th of the 103 Victorian public schools in order of foundation, and named after the Very Reverend Francis Close, Dean of Carlisle Cathedral.

Former pupils include the poet James Elroy Flecker, whose father was the School's first headmaster (the old Flecker Hall was named after him), and the artist Francis Bacon.
