Boarding is fundamental to the ethos of Heathfield. It defines who we are and allows us to fulfil our aims and vision to educate and extend our young learners whilst allowing them to grow, discover new opportunities and give back to the community.
The school day does not end at 4pm; boarding gives us the maximum contact time with each student. All boarders reside in Year Groups, allowing them to develop bonds with their own age group. Students in Forms I, II and III (Years 7 to 9) board in rooms which range in size from rooms of two to dormitories sleeping eight.
A genuine home away from home

Students board in their year in dormitories in the main school building from Forms I to III (Years 7 to 9) known as Bronte House. In Forms IV to LVI (Years 10 to 12) the students have their own rooms. Lower Sixth students move into the self-contained Sixth Form House where they have the opportunity to prepare for independent living and university life.
Each year group has a team of Housemistresses and graduate scholars. A recent ISI inspection graded the Boarding Department as 'oustanding'. Wyatt House (Boys and Girls) Years 12 and 13 Phoenix House (Boys and Girls) Year 11 Wantage House (Girls) Years 9 and 10 Bronte House (Girls) Years 7 and 8.
