Kingham Hill is a top small independent boarding and day school for children aged 11-18 nestled in the heart of the Cotswold countryside, in a stunning 100-acre estate. With just under 300 pupils, the School remains deliberately small as it provides the perfect balance of academic rigour delivered in a vibrant and nurturing environment.
Founded in 1886 by Christian philanthropist Charles Edward Baring Young, Kingham Hill School has educated generations of students, and it prioritises development beyond the classroom to ensure that children leave as rounded young adults who will become happy and successful in their future lives.
When talking to pupils, parents and staff about what they love most about the School, the answer is usually 'community'.
This is easily achievable as our boarding houses have an average of 25-30 pupils per house, which makes them like large families with everyone having the opportunity to play a part. What the school is known for? High quality education is delivered within top class learning facilities where every pupil has endless opportunities to learn, excel and realise their potential.
Coupled with small class sizes, the School provides academic challenge and for every child. The School offers a range of study options to suit the diverse needs of its pupils, including the US Program, which offers pupils the opportunity to study at a British boarding school whilst completing an American High School diploma.

Academics at Kingham Hill
What pupils study at Kingham Hill — and where it takes them.
(over 20) including Mathematics, English and Science. When entering Year 10 our pupils will study GCSE qualifications and in Year 12 and 13 pupils will have the opportunity to study A level qualifications. We also offer a unique US Program allowing American pupils the opportunity to study at a traditional British boarding school while continuing to meet US educational requirements.
The program is the first course in the United Kingdom to be developed in conjunction with and supported by the US State Department. In addition, Kingham Hill is the first (and only) British school to be accredited by the Middle States Association and recognized by the US Department of Education.

We understand that finding the right boarding school is a big decision as the chosen destination is going to be school and home for the next five to seven years. For many pupils, this will be their first time away from home, so it is important that to know that the time spent outside school will be comfortable, enjoyable and there are opportunities for some fun!
Kingham Hill is a majority boarding school in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, with over 60% of our pupils living on site in one of seven boarding houses. Most of our boarders are British, but we also have pupils from all over the world who call 'The Hill' their home.
A genuine home away from home
We have eight boarding houses, each with their own gardens. The number of pupils per house is deliberately small, between 20-35, and well below those of many independent schools. The reason for this is that Kingham Hill prides itself in creating a homely feel in its boarding houses, which can be achieved if the number of pupils in them is small.
Each house is run by a houseparent and deputy houseparent (who are all married couples) and they are supported by house tutors. The house staff really do know and care for all the children in their house. Pupils joining the school aged 11, 12 & 13 join a junior house.

However, it is fair to say that places in our senior boarding houses are often all taken by soon after Easter for the coming September.
