Our deliberately small size and reputation for excellent pastoral care means that at Milton Abbey, the individual really does matter. Our education challenges and stretches each pupil within a caring and supportive environment. Our philosophy develops every young into fully-rounded people academically, culturally and spiritually.
Our mission is to find the spark that will light each student's passion; whether that is in the classroom, on the games field or in the theatre. Or it could be down at the School Farm, as a passion for the countryside and outdoor education are key features of life at Milton Abbey.
We are a traditional full boarding school, so children take part in an amazing range of activities in the evenings and at weekends.
Our overseas pupils are from a wide range of countries with a significant number from mainland Europe (such as Germany, Spain and Italy), as well as further afield (including Kenya, USA , Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore). Our diverse community ensures everyone integrates well rather than mixing only with people from their own country.
Overseas parents like to know that their children are happy, motivated and busy, and are living in a safe countryside environment designed to take advantage of our location. Many like the idea of a secure countryside location, away from the distractions of a big city, but with a full extracurricular timetable.

Academics at Milton Abbey
What pupils study at Milton Abbey — and where it takes them.
Lessons are now one hour long - school says this helps pupils to concentrate better. Milton Abbey is resolutely mainstream but learning , with four teachers and six teaching assistants, is the biggest department. Some pupils are screened before they start and around 30% access learning in some way - for a wide range of difficulties mainly dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia).
Learning assistants provide additional help in lessons and we offer small group outside lessons too (charged on top of the fees). EAL and study skills on offer. Some pupils have learning lessons instead of doing French or Spanish. The department is very welcoming, with its door permanently open to help anyone who wants to drop in for revision tips, essay planning and time management.

Milton Abbey's aim is to identify a meaningful and valuable outcome for every pupil and to enable them to achieve this. 97% of pupils achieved the post-school outcome they were aiming for, resulting in leavers pursuing a broad variety of opportunities.
BTECs unlock the world of work and higher education. In 2019, a quarter of all students starting higher education in the UK had at least one BTEC amongst their qualifications.
In terms of University admissions, a single BTEC at Distinction* earns the equivalent of an A* at A Level. Those who study an extended BTEC subject and achieve a Triple Distinction* would earn 168 UCAS points, the equivalent of three A* grades at A Level.
Last year 98% of Milton Abbey School leavers secured their desired post-school outcome. Many like the idea of a secure countryside location, away from the distractions of a big city but with a full extracurricular timetable during the week and at weekends.
We are a full boarding school, this means that every weekend, our pupils are all in School; the School doesn't empty at weekends, leaving the overseas pupils behind. This too allows us to organise meaningful and challenging weekend activities to ensure our pupil are stretched, entertained and above all sharing experiences with their friends from all over the world.
A genuine home away from home
Boarding pupils live at the school throughout the week and over weekends during term time, and go home for a long weekend (or Exeat) twice a term, half term and holidays. The school runs a comprehensive transport service to London, Hampshire, Sussex, Kent, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Somerset and Devon, as well as to major airports and train stations at Exeats and Half Terms.
On joining the School, every boarding pupil is assigned to a House; a -knit community where year are fully integrated and where every pupil is inspired to feel that they belong. Each House has a team of resident staff and matrons to help provide a home-from-home environment.

Special notes to agents about entry to the school We accept students for one, two or three terms (where possible) or the full course offer. We do not havea formal entrance test, but would require a meeting with the family and pupil either at school or via Skype.
We would ask for arecent school report, any Learning Support (EAL) information and will seek a Head of School/Tutor reference upon receipt of the Registration Form. We can accept short term pupils for one or more terms, however this is only possible if we have places available.
