Monkton Combe — campus and grounds

Monkton Combe School, just a mile from the World Heritage City of Bath, is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 2-18. We pride ourselves on our lively Christian ethos, excellent exam results and our strong pastoral care.

At Monkton, we are setting standards for life; giving young people the qualities of character they need to become trusted employees, inspiring leaders, valued friends and loving parents. Monkton has an extraordinary ethos in which a culture of self-discovery is underpinned by the powerful pastoral provision to ensure that above all else pupils know who they are.

We celebrate failure, reflect on our mistakes and constantly strive to do better.
Monkton Combe — the school grounds

All the houses reflect the spirit and ethos of the School, but each exudes its own personality generated by its pupils, houseparents and staff. Two thirds of pupils in Years 9 to 11 are boarders, rising to three quarters of students in our Sixth Form, with all students, day pupils and boarders, seizing the opportunity to make the most of our extended day and our vibrant, energetic community.

Monkton is a deliberately smaller school which sits comfortably amongst its Rugby group peers as offering the very best all-round experience possible. No individual gets lost at Monkton; being smaller means no one gets lost in the cracks. Not only can pupils take part in a huge range of activities, unlike so many schools where the same 10% of pupils do 90% of what happens, at Monkton, 90% do.

we offer, please refer to the downloads in the Admissions section Years 7 to 9 Our curriculum model in Upper Prep focuses on effective academic preparation for Year 9 and beyond while also equipping the children with the skills and characteristics they need to succeed not just in their learning but also their relationships and wider endeavours.

We believe in the importance of exams, but we coach the children in exam skills within an engaging, dynamic and broad curriculum which is focused not on the end of Year 8 as the major milestone, but ultimately the end of Year 13. With our Faculty system - STEM, Humanities and Languages, Expressive Arts and Art and Design - Monkton pupils learn in a cross-curricular and thematic way, drawing connections between different subjects and understanding the relevance of each in their wider lives and futures.
