Founded in 1407, Oswestry is one of England's oldest schools and stands on the edge of a safe, typically English old-fashioned market town surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. It is within this environment that pupils follow the School's motto: 'We learn not for school but for life'.
Historical it may be, with many traditional virtues encouraged, but Oswestry is also a warm, caring and progressive school which constantly evolves with the times. All pupils, supported and encouraged by an excellent team of staff, are expected to make the most of their abilities.
The size of the School helps us achieve our ethos and our pupils are bright, energetic, confident and, above all, happy.
Extensive playing fields, gymnasium, netball/tennis courts and a heated indoor swimming pool are some of the sporting environments at Oswestry. The School enjoys a proud tradition of music and drama, and art and design continue to be strong departments within the School, with several exhibitions held each year.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and the Combined Cadet Force offer opportunities to develop leadership skills, self-reliance and responsibility. Oswestry is ninety minutes by car from Manchester and Birmingham Airports and forty five minutes from Liverpool.

Academics at Oswestry
What pupils study at Oswestry — and where it takes them.
pupils are taught in form , though wherever possible, particularly in English and Maths, pupils are taught in ability groupings. The curriculum in the first three years of the School is broad and balanced so that pupils can explore many different areas of knowledge and develop their skills, abilities and interests.
In Fourth and Fifth Form, pupils study towards their GCSEs and are set by ability wherever the timetable allows. English Language, English Literature and Mathematics are compulsory GCSE subjects. Pupils are also strongly encouraged to study a modern foreign and at least two science subjects.

Boarding at our school The School's boarding capacity is 135 pupils. They are accommodated in one of three houses in rooms of varying sizes. Each house is overseen by a residential Housemistress or Housemaster, together with a team of qualified staff.
Pupils are given their own internet account when they join the School and have access to internet facilities; all houses have wireless internet access installed. Pastoral care and staffing Each boarding house has a resident Housemaster or Housemistress and Assistant Houseparents.
A genuine home away from home
125 boarders live in one of three houses located within the School campus and are looked after by kind and caring house staff. Our younger boarders share two, three or four bedded rooms, from Y10 boarders are usually in twin rooms; Sixth Form boarders occupy twin ensuite rooms.
Food is prepared on site and is served as a buffet with hot and cold options and a good selection of fresh vegetables, fruit and desserts. There is plenty of choice so all diets are catered for. Wi-Fi throughout the School site makes it easy for pupils to stay in touch with home.

Special notes to agents about entry to the school Students may, subject to availability of places, enter the School at any time throughout the year (apart from Year 11), though September is preferable. Boarders are accepted from First Form. We consider Second or Third Form an ideal start level, enabling the student to become accustomed to the School and have time to improve their level of English before embarking on examination courses.
