The School has a range of different orchestras, choirs, swing bands, brass bands, and many ensembles. Drama and Dance productions occur regularly and some 35 sports are offered. Sedbergh School has an international reputation for its sporting achievements and the School also takes great pride in offering a broad range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, whatever their aptitudes and abilities.

Boarding at our school Arguably, boarding is what Sedbergh does better than any other school in the country. We take the view that everyone performs best when they feel cared for, confident and relaxed; therefore we make sure our pastoral care is second to none, and have established a successful House system to foster a caring environment, and create smaller, tight-knit, cross-year communities within the School.
Sedbergh has nine senior Houses in total: six for boys and three for girls. Each House has its own library (in addition to the School Library), common rooms, computer suite and dining room, enabling pupils to study, socialise and dine in their House as well as sleep.
A genuine home away from home
Sedbergh is one of the few longstanding full boarding schools in the UK that thrives on providing the classic traditional boarding experience. In the picturesque, safe rural book town of Sedbergh, nestling in the dynamic environment of the Howgills, Sedbergh's boarding culture centres on the House; a special environment where leadership, loyalty and laughter happen Boarding Houses are family for pupils when they are here, and also when they are away or have left.
The camaraderie and offered spans the year and a first class prefecting system ensures that younger children are supported by older pupils and always have someone to go to, beyond their Housemaster, Housemistress or Tutor. Tutoring remains within the house and staff feel as much a sense of belonging as the pupils.
