Established in 1749, St Edmund's is a distinctive co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 3 - 18 that provides dynamic and innovative education in a nurturing environment. We are an inclusive and diverse community based on an enduring set of values: Mutual Respect, Creativity, Individuality, Excellence and Social Responsibility.
The school is located on a beautiful site overlooking the vibrant, historic city of Canterbury ideally situated in south of England with fast rail and road links to London and Europe. We are also ideally placed for the ferry port at Dover and the Eurotunnel train service to Europe.
St Edmund's was last inspected in March 2023 by the ISI and was deemed "excellent" in all areas.

Academic standards are high and the school has exceptional strengths in may areas including its science and mathematics provision. There are many inspiring opportunities in music, drama and art as well as strong sporting traditions. Indeed, our Under 16 Boys Hockey Team won the national tier 3 title in 2024.
The excellent teaching and pastoral staff ensure that pupils leave as well-educated, well-balanced and confident young people who go on to some of the top universities. Boarding at St Edmund's offers a family experience which values the individual, whilst providing a stimulating environment for pupils from a wide range of cultures.

in every year group (over twenty in each key stage). We believe pupils benefit greatly from these opportunities, allowing them to find and develop their potential. Our pupils are prepared for public examinations at GCSE and A Level. We do not currently offer IB.
The curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils; it prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. The ISI inspection report in September 2015 judged Pupil Development to be "Excellent".

Where our leavers go
Going Places All St Edmund's pupils go on to further education at UK and international universities, medical schools, drama schools and conservatoires. The School has strong university advisory team including a UCAS Officer, a Head of Sixth and the Housemasters.
All references are written by the Head. We had two successful Oxbridge applicants - one student is placed at the University of Oxford to study Beginners' Italian and Linguistics.
Another student will study Law at the University of Cambridge. We did not have any students go on to study Medicine, dentistry or veterinary science.
One student will be studying overseas at Maastricht University; however, I do not know the course. 30% of our UCAS applicants will go on to study at a Russell Group university.

St Edmund's boarding comprises splendid, traditional buildings which epitomise the historic grandeur of Canterbury life.
+3 photos Pastoral care and staffing James Clapp is the Director of Boarding and Lucy Harding is Head of Girls' boarding. They live within the boarding community and boarders can approach them at any time. The team of residential staff are available to care for all boarders and to help provide a happy, settled and safe environment.

Step 2 - registration Parents are required to register their child/children by completing the online registration form here, together with a non-refundable £150 registration fee.
Each child's name is then added to the provisional list for entry in the term indicated. A child cannot be assessed for entry and accepted without having first been registered. Step 3 - assessment Ideally, the Head would wish to interview each child; however agents in the child's country of origin may be instructed to do this on the school's behalf.
