St Leonards is an all-through IB, coeducational boarding school situated in a safe, historic campus in the heart of the seaside university town of St Andrews, Scotland. Less than an hour from Edinburgh Airport, this special Scottish coastal town is renowned as the home of golf and Scotland's first university.
St Leonards is a progressive yet traditional British boarding school with the benefit of an international outlook. This is fostered by the International Baccalaureate curriculum, taught from Kindergarten to Year 13. It was the first school in Scotland to be accredited as an all-through IB school, and is the only school in the UK to actively offer all four IB programmes.
With the beach just two minutes' walk from the grounds, well-established links with the University of St Andrews, and 7 championship links golf courses on the doorstep, co-curricular activities - of which there are over 50 on offer - play an important role in school life.

The Creative Arts are an important part of school life, whether that be a production on the stage, a concert, or the annual Art Exhibition. The leading six-tier Golf Programme continues to go from strength-to-strength, and an exciting calendar of trips and activities ensures pupils leave St Leonards with the skills required to succeed in 's ever-changing world.

About the curriculum St Leonards is the first school in Scotland to be accredited as an all-through International Baccalaureate (IB) school, delivering the inspiring, globally-recognised curriculum from Year 1 to Year 13, praised by students, parents and admissions officers for its focus on deepening learning and enriching minds.
It is also the only school in the UK to actively offer all four IB programmes. Pupils begin with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in Years 1-6, progress to the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Years 7-9, and finish with either the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme in Years 12 and 13.

Where our leavers go
After completing their studies at St Leonards, our pupils go on to study at a wide range of prestigious universities here in Scotland, across the UK, and other universities across the globe - most often their first choice destination. In 2022, the most popular destination was the University of Durham.
Other UK destinations included the Universities of Oxford, Nottingham, St Andrews, Aberdeen, Bristol, Exeter, and Bath. Last year, pupils also went on to study in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, and the United States.

Boarding is at the heart of life at St Leonards. The school welcomes full, weekly, flexi and occasional boarders from age 10-18. The boarding houses have smart social spaces, state-of-the-art kitchens and comfortable study bedrooms. Many of the bedrooms have sea views beyond the school playing fields.
The boarding houses are a 'home from home', and are characterised by a family feel and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Each of the houses has its own unique character, but are underpinned by the same ethos: to provide an outstanding boarding experience that is rooted in tradition, but continually evolving and adapting to meet the needs of 's young people.
A genuine home away from home

Ollerenshaw (Boys) Ollerenshaw is our Senior boys' boarding house and is home to nearly 50 young men. Together with the Housemaster and his own family, the Ollerenshaw boys enjoy socialising in the recently refurbished common room, games room and kitchen, as well as making the most of the strength and conditioning facilities in the in-house gym.
St Rule (Boys and Girls) St Rule is our boarding house for both girls and boys, separated down the middle into East and West. With family at the heart, St Rule is a stylish, comfortable home-from-home for up to 50 Junior boarders. Bishopshall (Girls) Bishopshall is our home-from-home for Senior girls at St Leonards.
