The Mount School York is an exceptional independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 -18, and boys age 3-11. Based in the heart of York, boarders enjoy a city life in beautiful countryside. Girls can board at The Mount from the age of 11.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) subjects, humanities and creative studies are taught to girls from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. Pupils from a young age are able to experience a diverse range of topics to find out where their interests lie.

Where our leavers go
University Destinations Students from The Mount Sixth Form regularly accept offers from their first-choice universities. Each year, our girls proceed to a broad range of university destinations, with most leavers accepting offers from Oxbridge, Russell Group and international universities.
In 2020, Leavers' university destinations included Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, St Andrews and York for a diverse range of courses including veterinary medicine, geography, psychology, liberal arts, fashion design, costume design and business. Girls in The Mount Sixth Form are offered extensive UCAS when considering their future choices and making their University applications.
The freedom of an all-girls environment means there are no stereotypes to future destinations or careers. Career aspirations are not limited and girls are encouraged to believe in themselves.

at The Mount is an enriching experience We provide an environment where every girl is respected and valued. They are well cared for in a calm and caring community, giving them every opportunity to flourish, developing their independence and confidence.
Being a boarder at The Mount adds another dimension to the school experience with friendships from the Boarding House often lasting a lifetime. The Mount's Boarding House is situated in the main School building. The boarding provision consists of dormitory bedrooms with separate bathrooms on each floor, a large communal kitchen area where the girls can relax and prepare snacks, a TV lounge and games room.
A genuine home away from home

Our Boarding House is part of our Main School building and home to up to 44 girls. Situated across two floors comfortable and modern accommodation provides girls with a relaxed and homely environment in which to live. Younger boarders share their rooms with two or three other girls, whereas Sixth Form boarders are usually in rooms of two.
The classic Georgian proportions of rooms in our beautiful Grade 2 listed building provide high ceilings and sash windows that create well lit environments. Younger girls live closest to boarding staff, whilst College girls have their own floor and social spaces to foster a sense of independence, as the next step before university.
