Walhampton Prep — around the school

An independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 -13, Walhampton lies in ancient woodland on the southern edge of the New Forest, on the coast near Lymington in Hampshire. We strive to let children be children for longer, whilst preparing them for the unknown challenges and opportunities in the world of tomorrow.

Our stunning setting in 100 acres of lawns, lakes and woodland by the sea, means the children are inspired by nature whilst immersing themselves in limitless academic, artistic, technological, challenging and sporting experiences. Walhampton has been awarded the Talk Education's award for 'Innovation in Education' in the Pastoral Care and Wellbeing category.

With small classes and outstanding teaching our new 2-13 learner journey integrates the holistic Pre-Senior Baccalaureate and focuses on the achievement and wellbeing of the 'whole child' to instil the joy of learning.
Walhampton Prep — school buildings and grounds

We prepare our children for 13+ Common Entrance and scholarships to senior independent schools including Winchester, Eton, St. Swithun's, Canford, Clayesmore, Harrow, Radley and Bryanston. Academic standards at Walhampton are excellent and were strongly endorsed in our most recent ISI report.

We have enjoyed 100% success rate in Common Entrance for a number of years. In June 2025 we confirmed that exeats are no longer compulsory and children can remain in school for the weekend in the care of our boarding team. These exeat weekends are designed as cultural weekends during which time pupils will have the opportunity to visit local towns or cities, perhaps attending a theatre production and be involved in cooking their meals.
