Aldro is a coeducational day and boarding school for approximately 200 children aged between 7 and 13. Nestled in the quintessentially English and very beautiful village of Shackleford, Aldro lies just 30 miles southwest of London and is in easy reach of both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Aldro is well known for preparing children to attend the best independent senior schools. Our scholarship boards speak for themselves - in 2024, 25% of the cohort achieved scholarships to schools including Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and RGS Guildford and over the last three years, a total of 16 academic scholarships have been awarded.
At the time of writing, 24% of the current Form 8 have achieved scholarships to schools including Charterhouse and Harrow.

What pupils study at Aldro — and where it takes them.
of English, mathematics, science and the languages, both modern and ancient (Latin & Greek) to the humanities and technology, pupils are encouraged to think critically, solve problems and develop a lifelong love of learning. Our teaching staff are dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity while preparing pupils for the academic demands of top senior schools.
Sport also plays a key role in the Aldro experience. With games taking every day and a wide range of team and individual sports, pupils of all abilities are encouraged to participate, compete and enjoy physical activity. Through sport, children learn the values of teamwork, perseverance and fair play.

We value our independence and recognise the importance of offering parents impartial guidance on the senior schools at which their children may thrive. We send our pupils to a wide range of schools, depending on their particular strengths and interests.
In recent years, our pupils have gone on to schools including Bradfield, Canford, Charterhouse, Cranleigh, Dean Close, Downe House, Harrow, King Edward's Witley, King's Worcester, Kings Canterbury, Lancing, Marlborough, Oundle, Radley, RGS Guildford, Sherborne, Tonbridge, St John's Leatherhead, Seaford College, St Swithin's, Wellington and Winchester. In 2025, 24% of our pupils achieved scholarships to schools including Charterhouse, Harrow, Cranleigh, King's Worcester and Sherborne across a broad range of disciplines.
In 2024 alone, 25% of the cohort achieved academic scholarships to schools including Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and RGS Guildford. Over the last three years, a total of 18 academic scholarships have been awarded to schools including Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and RGS Guildford.

We offer a number of different options to suit the needs of different families; this could be full-time, weekly or part-time boarding. We aim to make boarding an enriching experience where young people can develop socially and personally in their confidence, organisation, and leadership.
This is achieved in a friendly, family orientated environment that cultivates mutual respect. Boarders can join the boarding house in all Forms, so any pupil is eligible to join should there be availability. Boarding at Aldro is structured in the following way: all boy boarders live on the first floor of the main school building and girls live on the top floor.
A genuine home away from home
Girls Boarding House (Girls) Girls boarding is on the top floor of the main school building. The girls boarding is run by our Housemistress, Miss Barrett. There are four girls boarding rooms called Churchill, Donaldson, Sherwood and B-R. Each room has between 5 and 9 beds.
The girls have access to their own showers and a bath (a privilege for full boarders at the weekend). The girls have their own common room but can also use the boys' common room on movie nights or board game evenings. Boys Boarding House (Boys) Boys boarding is on the first floor of the main school building.
We can arrange trusted UK guardianship for international families.

The usual points of entry are at seven years of age, into our Form 3 and at eleven years of age into our Form 7. Over recent years we are seeing increasing numbers entering at nine years of age, into our Form 5. The School may also have places for pupils at other ages.
