Christ's Hospital — everyday boarding life

Christ's Hospital has 18 boarding houses. Of the 900 pupils, all but 60 are full boarders. There are 16 boarding houses on the Avenue, with eight girls' houses and eight boys' houses. Each house caters for 45 to 52 pupils, ranging in age from 11 (Year 7) to 17 (Year 12; lower sixth form) and has a resident house-parent, a resident matron (non-medical), an assistant house-parent and four house tutors.

There is always a member of staff on duty in each boarding house, who is clearly visible and easily accessible to the pupils. Year 13 (upper sixth form pupils) move to one of the two co-educational upper sixth form houses. The Grecian houses each have a resident house-parent, an assistant house-parent in an adjacent property and a second assistant house-parent to provide additional cover, particularly on Saturday evenings.
