Cranleigh — campus and grounds

Cranleigh is a mature leading co-educational boarding and day school set in over 280 acres on the edge of the Surrey Hills. Cranleigh provides a breath taking range of opportunities in a school small enough for everyone to know and each other.

We are a family school and offer a broad holistic education that draws the best out of children whatever their talents. We look after the most able through our scholarship and elite development programmes, but we want every child to participate in sport music and drama.

Pupils join from a wide variety of prep schools across London, the Home Counties and abroad, creating a lively, House-based community of young people who are drawn together by their inherent love of life and getting involved in everything Cranleigh has to offer.

Both schools share the motto Ex Cultu Robur (from Culture comes Strength), an ethos which celebrates co-curricular success alongside academic excellence with remarkable results for every pupil, year on year. What the school is known for? Ethos Community Cranleigh Thinking, Being Giving Extra-curricular Sport School history Cranleigh School was opened on 29 September 1865 as a boys' school 'to provide a sound and plain education, on the principles of the Church of England, and on the public school system, for the sons of farmers and others engaged in commercial pursuits'.

It grew rapidly and by the 1880s had more than 300 pupils although it declined over the next 30 years and in 1910 numbers dropped to 150. Cranleigh started to admit girls in the early 1970s and became fully co-educational in 1999. it is now a school of near to 700 pupils with over 75% boarding.
