Hereford Cathedral — the school grounds

Hereford Cathedral School is one of the oldest schools in the country, located in the beautiful surroundings of a Cathedral Close. A happy, inclusive school with a national reputation for music, sport and academic achievement, we offer pupils a personalised education helping individuals to set their sights high and feel valued for who they are.

Aside from stretching and challenging all pupils, both in and out of the classroom, our prime aim is to develop character: helping pupils to become fulfilled and valued citizens, who will make a positive impact on those around them. Our A-Level students can choose from a wide range of subjects from a free option list.

Alongside this, we also run the 'HCS Diploma' course ensuring our students leave us real-world ready.

Hereford Cathedral — pupils in their boarding house

Pupils boarding at HCS will enjoy being part of a boarding house with a welcoming, family atmosphere where we will ensure they will feel safe and well looked after throughout their time with us. It is difficult to show in photographs, and even videos, but everyone that enters Wilmot House, immediately feels the warm friendliness that has been created.

It really is like one big family which our boarders return to after a day in school. Being set away from the school, our boarders to have that distinction between school and home. They have beautiful gardens surrounding the house where they can relax when needed, and tranquility in the house when needed for private study.

Pastoral care

A genuine home away from home

Hereford Cathedral — everyday boarding life

Wilmot House is a mixed boarding house with designated areas for boys and girls controlled by an electronic card system. It is home to students in years 9 to 13, aged between 13 and 18 and was completely renovated in 2019. The mixed boarding house allows the students to live in a natural environment downstairs where boys and girls can socialise safely together in the evenings and at weekends.

Upstairs, there are separate boys and girls corridors with restricted access using key fobs and CCTV in critical points. House staff make regular checks to ensure pupils are in the correct areas. The bedrooms are all ensuite and range from single rooms to quad rooms.
