Ipswich School has existed in some shape or form since at least 1399 and has been in its present location since 1851. 'The Sunday Times Schools Guide' adjudges it to be the top independent school in Suffolk (and in the 'top ten' in the region of East Anglia).
However, most importantly, it offers a great mix of classroom success and co-curricular opportunities. Pupils achieve excellent exam results (and go on to top universities) but also achieve all-round success in Music, Drama, Art and Sport, competing in all four of those areas with the very best children in the whole of the United Kingdom.
In 2025, across 25 A Level subjects, 82%+ of A Level exams were graded A*-B and over one in five exams at A*.

At GCSE, over one in four of our pupils achieved all their GCSE exams at 7 or above (a total of 38 pupils) and two-thirds of all grades were at 7, 8 or 9. Pastorally, we ensure pupils are nurtured to become confident, self-assured and resilient young people.
One of our key aims is to ".. provide an environment where pupils feel safe and brave in all that they do …". We now have three Boarding Houses: Westwood, Anglesea Heights (Girls) and Anglesea Heights (Sixth Form). Westwood (for boys) is a Victorian mansion set in wooded grounds, just a five-minute walk from the main school site.
