Junior King's is a co-educational day school with full boarding from Year 4 upwards. Our age range is 3 -13 years, with most pupils going onto The King's School, Canterbury when they leave. We have a stunning eighty-acre countryside location just two miles from the city of Canterbury and only 50 minutes from St Pancras Station, London.
A historic school, founded in 1879, but one that is never stuck in history, Junior King's stands out as a bursting with energy, dynamism, and a real enjoyment of learning. The children are at the heart of everything we do, and we believe that with a positive and creative approach comes happy, engaged children.

We are constantly looking for new opportunities to give the children a chance to discover their particular talents and to flourish. Our children do so well, and go so far, precisely because our first goal is their happiness. We achieve this by finding each child's interests and passions and nurturing them in an environment where they can be involved in sport (including football, rugby, netball, hockey, and cricket), a huge range of activities (including rowing, sailing, horse-riding and fencing), art, music, drama, DT, and modern and ancient languages.

We are particularly proud of the wide range of sports on offer, including netball, football, rugby, cricket, tennis and hockey, as rowing, sailing, horse-riding, swimming and fencing.

Please read the in-depth subject pages from our website: Academic - Subjects Performing and creative arts Drama (as well as a Technical Theatre activity), Art (including crafts and pottery), Design Technology English as an additional Our EAL provision is comprehensive and includes the following: Specialist lesson in a small group or one-to-one depending on need and timetabling.
Lessons include some English as a Second Language teaching (grammar, function and use) and SLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), teaching subjects such as science, history and geography, and social/cultural English for daily school life and living in the UK.

We promote strong and positive relationships between staff and children. We have high expectations of pupils' behaviour, good manners and consideration for others and these are fundamental school values. Each child is encouraged to develop his or her individuality and to learn that personal freedom comes with responsibility to others.
A genuine home away from home
Boarding remains at the heart of school life with some children coming from overseas, together with weekly boarders from London and the South East. The girls are accommodated in Juckes House where they are looked after by their own Housemistress, whilst the boys reside in Kipling House with their own Houseparents.
Kipling House, Boys, Year 4-8 (Boys) Kipling House is the Boys' Boarding House and was named after the famous author and poet, Rudyard Kipling, who opened the School on its new site in 1929. Boys are housed in seven attractive dormitories which are named after famous individuals who displayed great determination and positivity in their exploits: Drake, Frobisher, Raleigh, Nansen, Darwin, Scott and Shackleton.
