The Royal School Dungannon (RSD) is a co-educational voluntary grammar school for day and boarding pupils aged 11-18. RSD offers a traditional British education with a focus upon academic subjects at GCSE and A Level and a broad range of extra-curricular activities, including Saturday sports fixtures.
Situated in its own spacious grounds in the market town of Dungannon, Northern Ireland, RSD enjoys excellent road links to Belfast and Dublin and their three airports. There is a strong boarding community housed within the school grounds, offering both five and seven day boarding.
The Boarding Department has been recently refurbished to offer high-quality, modern accommodation which creates a home-from-home atmosphere.

Results are excellent and 95% of pupils go on to university, including Oxbridge. RSD offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, such as sport, music and drama, after school, at lunch times and at weekends. What the school is known for?
RSD is one of the oldest schools in Ireland and it has a long history of academic excellence and sporting prowess. Generations of pupils have achieved excellent examination results and gone on to universities and careers where they have found both personal fulfilment and an opportunity to give something back to their community.

Regular assessments take in all subjects and reports are sent home to inform parents about pupils' progress and effort. Typically 95% of RSD pupils enter third level education at university to study for a degree, including Oxbridge and the Russell Group of universities. A small number of pupils take an alternative route to Apprenticeships or employment.
Around half of RSD pupils choose to attend universities in Northern Ireland where fees are much lower than in the rest of the UK (£4,855 per annum rather than £9,535 per annum). The other half of pupils choose universities in England, Scotland and Wales in the main, with some going to universities in the Republic of Ireland or Hong Kong.

Boarding at our school RSD is a caring school with a long tradition of looking after boarders and many generations of local and international boarders have passed through our care. RSD offers boarders the option of 5 and 7 day boarding, catering for both local pupils and those from overseas.
Applications are direct to the School and can be made using the form found on the School website. The current fees structure is also available there. The boarding houses are located in the heart of the school and provide a friendly, home-from-home environment with pupils accommodated in dormitories for two people.
A genuine home away from home

Boys' and girls' boarding facilities are located in different wings of the same building. Each boarding student is allocated a shared dorm with a minimum of one and maximum of three other people. Boys and girls have modern communal shower and washrooms adjacent to their accommodation.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the Boarding Department. Boarders have access to separate kitchen facilities in which they can store and cook food. There are also games facilities for boarding students to enjoy, including games consoles and pool tables for recreational purposes.

The RSD Admissions Committee of senior staff and governors decide which applicants are awarded boarding places. The major meeting of the Admissions Committee takes in November each year and applicants are advised to apply by 31st October.
