Higher education and careers advice at St Edward's are highly personalised and quite exceptional. By the time they reach the fifth form, pupils have a clear sense of where their strengths lie within this family of aptitudes and are therefore able to make appropriate choices.
Pupils are given every assistance in choosing the right course of further study and in preparing a strong application, including visits by representatives of UK and US universities, mock interviews, and personal statement workshops. Tailored advice is given to Oxbridge and Ivy League candidates and those aiming for highly-competitive courses such as medicine or veterinary science.
Careers advice is firmly rooted in the real world of work. Our head of careers, a former head hunter with first-hand knowledge of a wide range of industries, runs a structured programme.
Every fifth former benefits from a termly, compulsory, individual careers session to help them identify, apply for and secure the most relevant work experience placements. The working relationship with the careers department begun in the fifth form continues right though the lower and upper sixth and it is not uncommon for OSE to seek further advice whilst they are at university.
In addition to this, some 12 or so informal careers receptions are organised each year, covering everything from financial services, law, engineering and fashion to marketing services, manufacturing and design. It is of enormous benefit to St Edward's pupils that higher education and careers advice continue to be available even after they have left the school.

Boarding and day pupils are based in one of thirteen houses, five for girls, four for boys and four that are co-educational in the Sixth Form. The Woodstock Road, a main route into the centre of Oxford, divides the estate; six of our houses are on the quad side of the school, alongside the teaching, dining and administrative facilities; seven are on the field side, next to the school's extensive pitches, the Nuffield Health facility (on school grounds but open to the public) and the Oxford Canal.
Pupils are often drawn, when choosing a house, to the particular characteristics of one side or the other. St Edward's is a weekly and full boarding school. Some pupils go home on Saturday afternoon after sport or other commitments and are required to be back in School by 9.00pm on Sunday evening.
A genuine home away from home
The 13 boarding houses are located either round the quad and are known as quad side houses, or on the playing fields and are known as field side houses. All the houses have a good mix of pupils who enjoy and excel at different activities. For international students, we try not to more than one or two pupils of any nationality in a year group in a house.
All houses have day and boarding pupils from each year, which ensures pupils from different years are able to and get to know each other and help new pupils. The school does not offer any short term stays. Pupils joining at either Year 10 or Year 12 can only be considered for a minimum of 2 years Special notes to agents about entry to the school We like all our agents to visit the school prior to starting to refer pupils and if a formal agency agreement is required this should be requested for consideration before referral of potential pupils.
Pupils must have strong English to be able to cope with a demanding curriculum - see the English requirements below.
