available. In the second and third years (Lower Fifth and Upper Fifth) all pupils take the core GCSE subjects - English, Mathematics, Sciences and a modern foreign - alongside their chosen options. In the Sixth Form, we offer an unusually wide range of 26 A level subjects, as well as a BTEC in Sport, allowing pupils to opt for specialised or broader combinations.
We aim to give pupils as much freedom as possible in their choice of subjects at this level. The Sixth Form also adds research-based programmes and stimulating enrichment opportunities, to help mould the multi-dimensional young people that universities and employers value.

Our distinctive and homely houses are central to life at Uppingham, and pupils develop a deep affection for their houses.
For them, the house is a sanctuary; a for rest and contemplation, as well as a hub for communal activity. There are 14 boarding houses, one senior (13+) day house and one Lower School (Years 7&8) house in Uppingham town and its immediate vicinity.

Each year scholarships are awarded to children of exceptional talent. Scholarships are awarded to pupils joining the School into Year 7 (11+), the Fourth Form (13+, Year 9) or joining the School at Sixth Form level (16+, Year 12). Scholarship awards may be made either for evidence of a high level of attainment and promise or exceptional specialist aptitude.
Candidates are assessed through test, examination or observation, interview and reference. Uppingham is proud of its moral and charitable commitment to widening participation in the School. To do so, we use as much of our funding as we can to enable as many young people as possible to benefit from an Uppingham education.
