Berkhamsted is one of Britain's leading independent schools, with over 480 years of history and tradition. It is a Day and Boarding school for boys and girls, offering both single-sex (from 11 to 16) and co-educational teaching (from 3-11 and 16-18 - Sixth Form).
Our diverse boarding and inclusive boarding community enjoy participating fully in the life of a traditional English independent school and are important and valued part of the school community. The School is located in the safe and historic market town of Berkhamsted, a prosperous community surrounded by Chiltern countryside, with convenient access to London (30 minutes by train) and Heathrow Airport (a 40-minute drive).

What the school is known for? This prestigious school provides excellent boarding facilities and pastoral care for students from abroad. We offer a bespoke family-feel boarding experience to cater for individual students' interests and hobbies, with flexibility offered at weekends, when students have the freedom to visit London (30 minutes on the train) or local friends or enjoy our wonderful sporting facilities and regular boarding house trips and experiences.

What pupils study at Berkhamsted — and where it takes them.

We encourage our Sixth Form students to study three subjects at A Level, devoting their time to achieving the highest possible grades in their chosen subjects. Please see our A Level Information Guide in the Prospectus Section for details: In some instances there may be some students who can take four A Levels or in rare circumstances, more than four.
Prospective students will have the opportunity to discuss their options before joining the Sixth Form. We aim to inspire students to show a passion for their A Level subjects that goes beyond the curriculum by promoting wider reading, by encouraging participation in internal and external academic competitions and by offering a number of further enrichment opportunities such as involvement in academic societies.

A genuine home away from home

Berkhamsted offers two Boarding Houses, St John's for girls and Incents for boys. Both are located in Chesham Road within a few minutes walk of both Senior School campuses, new Sixth Form centre (opening this academic year) and the town centre.
Dining facilities allow boys and girls to meet together for breakfast and supper and all pupils have access to the excellent sports facilities of the Senior School. Computers and Wi-Fi internet access are available in both boarding houses and house outings are arranged on a regular basis.
