Bilton Grange is one of the UK's leading Preparatory schools, and now part of Rugby School following the merger in January 2020. We are situated in an idyllic rural location in Central England, just 30 minutes from Birmingham International airport and 48 minutes by train from London.
Co-educational, the school takes children from 4-13, however boarding generally starts from the age of 8. Children learn to board in homely, friendly boarding houses with experienced house parents and matrons on hand to help them settle in and get the most out of school.
Our pupils go on to a wide range of the UK's leading independent senior schools, and last year, over 50% of our Year 8 pupils left with some kind of scholarship or award to their next school.

Now a part of Rugby School and described as "the jewel in the IAPS crown", the stunning setting of Bilton Grange truly sets the school apart from other Prep Schools. The main school building is located with a 19th century Pugin Mansion, and surrounded by 90 acres of woodland within which a golf course, indoor swimming pool, extensive sports pitches and shooting range are located.

English as an additional Additional in English as an Additional Language is provided by qualified teachers at Bilton Grange.
New pupils for whom English is an additional undertake a placement assessment upon entry into Bilton Grange and their needs are subsequently discussed with their parents, after which a programme of lessons (chargeable) will be put in . Special educational needs The Learning Support department at Bilton Grange aims to give those pupils with mild learning difficulties the opportunity to reach their full potential.

One of the great strengths of Bilton Grange is the breadth ofschools to which our children go on to. Preparing our children to succeed at Common Entrance and ISEB pre-tests, and to relish the challenges at Senior School, is a major part of all that we do.
Equally, advising families on exactly the right school, taking into account the strengths and talents of the child, family logistics and preferences, is part of the bespoke service we offer all families, however familiar they may be with the often opaque entrance procedures involved inmoving on to Senior School. We have strong relationships with many excellent schools across the country.
As we are newly-merged with Rugby School we are recognised as one of Rugby School's most important feeder schools and have recently introduced a single-pathway route for boarding pupils joining in Year 7 to go through to Rugby School without having to re-apply. Our pupils also go on in some numbers to Oundle, Uppingham, Repton, Oakham and Princethorpe as well as a whole host of other excellent public schools including Eton, Cheltenham Ladies, Harrow and Marlborough.
A small number of children leave us at the end of Year 6 to attend day independent schools or the excellent grammar schools in Rugby. Consistent yet exceptional success at scholarship level has ensured that a good number of BG pupils move on to their Senior School having been given accolades and awards, recognising the talent across the curriculum that has been developed and nurtured whilst at Bilton Grange.

Boarding is at the heart of Bilton Grange and the school week is structured to our boarders. All Prep pupils from Year 6 attend Saturday school, engaging in both normal curriculum lessons as well as curriculum enrichment and sport. There are additional Options available to both day and boarding pupils until 7.15 pm most nights, and the school has a busy feel right up to bed time.
Boarders have an activity every Sunday, many off-campus, as well as special events throughout the term including discos, candlelit suppers, banquets and theatre trips. +10 photos Pastoral care and staffing Pastoral care Children's well being and happiness is at the heart of all we do.
A genuine home away from home
Before the move to the new boarding house, boys and girls at Bilton Grange live in separate houses that are both within the main school building. In both houses the house parents live in, and are supported by an extensive team of matrons. Unlike any other boarding school in the UK, from the hours of 7pm until 7am, a matron is awake and on duty, patrolling the houses throughout the night.
If a child is unhappy or ill, they know that help is at hand and not far away - this is a unique system, and one which is a comfort to parents and pupils alike. State-of-the-art boarding house now open! (Boys and Girls) We are building a new trailblazing boarding house!

Launching for September 2025 entry - all-through boarding pathway from Bilton Grange to Rugby School We are excited to announce a new all-through boarding pathway from Bilton Grange to Rugby School. Children joining as a new boarder at Bilton Grange in Year 7 will be able to continue their boarding journey straight through to Rugby School without the need to apply for assessment against external applicants.
And as an added incentive, Year 7 boarders in 2025 will be living in Bilton Grange's brand new, state-of-the-art boarding house designed with children's comfort and modern lifestyle at its heart. Championing boarding fun for seven to 13-year-olds, this truly amazing home from home will feature hub spaces for games and music, an indoor cinema, outdoor amphitheatre and the absolute star - a helter-skelter-style slide to travel between the four levels.
