I am delighted to welcome you to Chigwell School and I encourage you to come to see us for yourself. If you do, you will find that we are a busy school where pupils of all ages work closely with each other and their teachers. In Chigwell pupils we look for academic ambition and a genuine eagerness to be involved in all that the School has to offer.
Ours is a happy, mutually-supportive, family-orientated community in which parents and staff work in partnership to help pupils reach their full potential and where friendships formed often last a lifetime. Chigwell School was founded in 1629 and for nearly four centuries we have been preparing pupils to go out into the world.
Clearly that world has evolved a great deal since then, and whilst we are conscious of our long heritage, we are always looking to innovate so that Chigwellians are well-prepared to contribute positively, to inspire change for the better and to continue learning throughout their lives.
We are very proud of our pupils and we strive to ensure that, through the curriculum and the wide range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom, each becomes the very best they can be: independent in spirit, adventurous in approach and empathetic in how they treat others.
There is a special warmth about the nurturing Chigwell community, with excellent facilities set in a beautiful open site of 100 acres, within view of the City of London. Time spent at school should be happy, with the right level of to allow all to achieve.

Academics at Chigwell

such as English, History and Classics. We encourage our international students to take part in drama plays to further improve their English and to understand this important part of British culture. Chigwell has its own state-of-the-art 150 seat theatre designed for the use of the whole School.
In addition to the main auditorium it includes a green room, rehearsal and teaching spaces, dressing rooms and a foyer. Past School productions include: The Crucible, The Arabian Nights, Selections from Berkoff, The Canterbury Tales, A Midsummer Night's Dream, James and the Giant Peach, The Rocky Horror Show, The Cagebirds, Romeo and Juliet, Extremeties, Faultlines, Krave, Dream On, Granny Must Die, Be My Baby, Oedipus the King, Alice in Wonderland and many more.

School has a unique boarding community, designed especially for international students coming to study A levels in the UK. Overseas boarders at Chigwell get the best of the British education system, supported by experienced staff. Students live in family boarding houses in the school grounds - each house has just seven or eight students, with a mix of different nationalities, cared for by House Parents who are academic staff.
House Parents include senior staff such as the Director of Studies, Heads of academic departments, and several Oxbridge graduates, so students have access to the highest degree of academic expertise. There is a strong academic ethos in our houses, which makes it easier and more enjoyable to study.
A genuine home away from home
Our unique boarding community is set over three historic houses on the school grounds. We have one boys house and two girls houses, and all are run by our highly experienced academic staff, who readily welcome international students into their family home.
The houses have all the essentials for modern family life. Each house has a well equipped kitchen should students choose to prepare food for themselves, and cosy living rooms to relax and enjoy time together. All houses have Wi Fi internet access.
