St George's School, established in 1888, is a highly acclaimed all-girls day and boarding school located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The school continues to empower ambitious young women . The school provides a personalised, supportive approach that brings out the best in every student.
Expert teachers and a stimulating curriculum build each girl's academic skills, confidence, and English fluency. "When I was choosing schools back home, Edinburgh was recommended by my cousin who attended University of Edinburgh. I soon found that living in the boarding house suits me as it's so easy to just walk into school each morning!
My two favourite subjects right now are mechanics and design and manufacturing - I really enjoyed a memorable lesson where we disassembled an entire toaster!
I'm also part of the Sixth Form committee, which is mainly about improving life for Sixth Formers here in different ways, and participated in the UK space design competition. The brief was to design a structure in Mars and the St George's team won the regional event.
Finally, one of the most helpful things at the school is the amount of help offered for the UCAS forms - from checking our personal statements to the application process itself." can be great fun and it provides opportunities for enormous personal growth, but we recognise that it is important for boarders to have plenty to look forward to. To this end, assisted by the girls themselves, we organise a number of House events, which bring all of the boarders together.
In the autumn term, the Upper Six organise a fancy dress party with games and prizes. Each term there is a whole house theatre trip and at regular intervals we hold theme nights, such as an Italian Evening or a celebratory meal for something like Chinese New Year.
The boarders have been at the heart of the St George's community for over 100 years. In Houldsworth House, the boarding house, and its surrounding private grounds, we aim to create a 'home from home' environment for our boarders in which they can feel secure and be all that they can be academically, socially and emotionally.
Although we offer a British boarding experience we very much pride ourselves on being an international community and enjoy sharing and celebrating each other's customs and festivals. Girls play an active part in the running of the boarding house where they are led by the elected student Head of Boarding.
